14 March 2009 Saturday

7.30am - 8.00am Registration time!

Most of them have arrived early that day. This clearly showed their enthusiasm in joining this camp, which is a really admirable attitude. After setting up the table for registration, Xin Qi and Wei Ting helped to take the attendance of all the participants. Syarifah took-in-charge of the bread. She was so kind that she let them choose either corn or kaya bun. = ) I distributed the notes of First Aid while Yin Mui and Kar Mun gave out the mineral water.

8.00am - 8.30am Briefing time!

After having the lovely bun as breakfast, three groups had been divided. Then, Puan Muhiza delivered a short speech regarding the aim of having this camp - learn First Aid properly to possess the knowledge to help people in needs! And yes, we're honoured to invite PBSM AJKs and members to teach us. A big thanks to their willingness.

8.30am - 11.30am Activities and talks

Basically, there were three stations. An hour for each station. Different station, different group, so the groups rotated to different stations after an hour. Get it? Haahaa. I know, it's rather confusing, but it's okay, as long as you know what we did on that day, right? xD

First station : Introduction on the ways and means to stop bleeding, what to do when we get burnt and some demostrations on bandaging by Tjun Git. There are three types of bandaging ways : Spiral, Reverse Spiral and Figure of Eight.

Second station : Introduction on First Aid and First Aid Kit by Li Ginn and Remathi (sp?) 3 objectives of First Aid - Preserve life, Avoid aggravating the condition of the casualties and Provide comfort. It's totally important for us to know Dr. ABC. D = Danger, R = Response, A = Airway, B = Breathing, C = Circulation / Compression. They also introduced the contents inside a First Aid Kit. Antiseptics, bandage, twizzer, cream and spray used for sprain...

Third station : Introduction on bone fracture and proper ways to bandage it by Chen Shin. We learnt the proper way to tie a triangular bandage, as well as to bandage the foot using Figure of Eight. It's an eye-opener to those who had not experienced any First Aid thingy at all!

11.30am - 12.30pm Lunch time!

Finally, here came the time for lunch! Chicken rice, drinks and some kuih for all. Everyone was really having a great time, savouring the scrumptious lunch ordered by Puan Hasnah. Of course, a little chatting as well. ^.*

12.30pm - 2.30pm Climax!

Poison. Tjun Git gave a brief explaination on what is poison. Then, he showed the ways of getting rid the poison. For example, when you get a wasp sting, use a twizzer to pluck out the sting and wash the affected area with tap water. He also explained how to use the Emergency Stretcher. We actually carried up a girl to the stretcher! Lol...

CPR! Circulation Pulmonary Resustision. ( Wow! It's amazing that I can actually remember what CPR stands for. =p ) Basically, it's useful when you notice a fainted or unconcious person. First of all, you'll have to observe the surroundings. Is there any danger like sharp things, fire? Next, pat gently on the person's shoulders and ask " Are you alright, Sir/Madam/Miss? ". Try to listen if he/she responses in 10 seconds. If no response, use the side of your hand on his/her forehead and 2 fingers under his/her chin and tilt the head to open the airway, also known as breathing pathway. Blow 2blows into the mouth, but make sure you've closed his/her nose. Then, compress the chest for 30 times. You have to do it for 5 cycles. Okay, there was a rubbery, fake lady to let everyone has a try to do CPR on her. Hmm...I think I don't want to write too much on this but I'll upload the videos and pics for this soon. A picture speaks a thousand words, after all.

P.s : Photos and videos will be uploaded here as soon as possible! So stay tuned! *wink*
